Photos from the Brisbane ordinations

Deacon Stephen Hill, newly ordained to the transitional diaconate last Thursday, Oct. 18 sent me some lovely photos of the event.

It took place in St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Brisbane on the evening of the Feast of St. Luke.

Brisbane Archbishop Mark Coleridge ordained Lyall Cowell and Antony Iball priests on this same wonderful day.

According to the website of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross, the ordinations were conducted on behalf of the Ordinary Fr. Harry Entwistle.

These are, I believe, the first wave of ordinations from priests formerly of the Traditional Anglican Communion.

And the Ordinariate’s website reports:

Please pray for WARREN WADE to be ordained priest by the Most Rev David Walker, Bishop of Broken Bay, by letters dimissory from the Very Rev Harry Entwistle, at 7:30 on Wednesday December 12th in Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, Waitara, NSW

Such exciting news!

I assume the last photograph is of the newly-ordained celebrating the Ordinariate Mass – what beaut vestments!

The last of the photos appears to be from a different mass, as (1) the sanctuary is much smaller and (2) the vestments are different. Is this, per chance, a mass in which the newly ordained presbyters of the ordinariate concelebrated with the ordinary, perhaps on the day after the ordination?

Yes, more ordinations are coming. The scheduling of the ordinations obviously requires synchronization of the ordinary’s schedule and the respective bishop’s schedule, once all of the paperwork is in order — and that synchronization is not always easy. The Personal Ordinariate of the Southern Cross also does not seem to have any administrative staff, so one wonders if the ordinary is processing a lot of the paperwork personally right now.

I do not have any more information than what I have posted. Perhaps Deacon Hill or someone else from Australia could enlighten us?

  5. Stephen Hill says:

Yes – the last photograph is the first mass of the Thomas a Becket Ordinariate Group, at St Benedict’s Catholic Church.
