Listen to Cardinal Burke

If you’d like to hear what Cardinal Burke sounds like, Rorate-Caeli has an audio recording of his appearance at the launch of the German edition of Remaining in the Church of Christ.

There is certainly no anger, but signs of a wry sense of humor.

  1. John Walter S. says:

From accounts of people who met with him, Cardinal Burke is a sweet-tempered man, but he does take seriously the job of protecting the sacraments from those who would have them trampled by swine. Certainly, our Lord knew these things will happen.

Of course, there are those who find him an embarrassment, namely the folks at the National “Catholic” Reporter.

  2. Macy says:

Here are the exact words of Benedict XVI in his speech to the Bundestag, referred to by Card. Burke towards the end of the recording, in reply to the doctor who explains that “hormones” (resumably hormonal contraceptives) are making people nuts:

Speaking about human ecology, Benedict said “Man too has a nature that he must respect and that he cannot manipulate at will. Man is not merely self-creating freedom. Man does not create himself. He is intellect and will, but he is also nature, and his will is rightly ordered if he respects his nature, listens to it and accepts himself for who he is, as one who did not create himself. In this way, and in no other, is true human freedom fulfilled.”
